national historical novel conference

My break out session at the National Historical Novel Society Conference at Caesar's Palace, Vegas, in late June addresses the challenges Native American novelists face creating and distributing their work.

Confronting injustices in our cultures and identity, my talk encourages us to claim our individual identities within the literary world. I advise confronting cultural appropriation and misrepresentation, balancing and preserving cultural traditions in a modern context, and fighting for access to financial and institutional resources.

My proposed solutions involve Indigenous literary sovereignty, language/cultural education and preservation, diversity of author voices, and overcoming the general public's extremely limited knowledge and understanding.

The presentation is restricted to registered conference attendees in person and online - but, I will post the event later on this website.
